Diversity is beautiful. We all sense the world in the same ways.

Diversity is beautiful. We all sense the world in the same ways.

One day in December of 2015, our founder Lorri Horton was taken to a internationally known bath and body product store by her daughter. Her senses were overwhelmed by the scents emanating from the store front. Her sense of value was also completely overcome when she saw the price for a single bath bomb.

Having a background that included laboratory work, Lorri decided that for gifts that year she would produce some simple bath bombs and soaps, little did she know that what she was about to produce was a revolutionary new variation of the bath bomb.

Friends from all walks of life as well as relatives raved about the products in how they (the products) “felt wonderful” and made them feel “refreshed, and calm”.

In the mean time Lorri had been searching for a new path where she could make people feel good not only in the moment but about themselves for the long term. That difference led to the idea of making a business out of these products. She would produce luxury products at a great value and the products themselves would be dual purposed, providing a functional aspect as well as a cosmetic aspect. Lorri said “Our products are both Pretty & Practical”. In January 2016, My5enses (pronounced My five senses) came into existence.

In the years to come, the number of products grew as did the knowledge of those most important ingredients. The functionality of the products increased as well. In the summer of 2017, after the 5th reformulation of the My 5enses bath bomb (to improve the shelf life without preservatives), one of the companies best clients, made a comment to Lorri. She said “I love these latest bath bombs, especially for the fact that I can simply drop one in the tub and shave with no shaving cream or soap.” That night Lorri did some practical research at home in her own tub and discovered one could indeed shave naked by using one of her bath bombs and nothing else. This led to the #shavenaked innovation and the addition of other #shavenaked products such as the foaming sugar scrub that offers the same shaving cream and soap free shaving experience as all the My5enses bath bombs do.

The next step for Lorri was the development of a lotion for dry skin, that could be used by health care workers. The rationale was easy, people in health care are constantly washing their hands and using alcohol based sanitizer so their hands get dried out. Since they work in an environment where scent is taboo, the product had to go on easily, absorb quickly and the scent had to dissipate rapidly. This is when Beach Babe body butter was invented. The lightly whipped product allowed the skin to absorb it quickly and the scent faded within minutes, so a person could apply it on their way in for a shift and be basically scent free by the time they started.

While trying to develop various ointments and healing salves Lorri came up with a recipe that would help aid in the healing of tattoo work, and inadvertently it also helped dry, cracked and damaged skin. Affectionately called Save Our Skin, SOS was born. Shortly after a magnesium based lotion was also launched. Magnesium is said to aid in a myriad of health issues, so the lotion acts as the medium in which the magnesium is applied topically and can safely enter the body to provide its benefits.

In 2021, My 5enses has now opened the OiLFACTORY. This a line of of over 50 different essential oil blends that are being offered in roller ball form to customers at a value based price. As with all My5enses products, the oils and packaging are ethically sourced, and each blend is registered with Health Canada.
